Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The transition continues at Syracuse University as the Orange settle themselves into their new conference.
The last signs of the school's long relationship with the Big East are literally being removed from the Carrier Dome and replaced by the Atlantic Coast Conference logo.
The Orange will be back on the field in the Dome in a few weeks to open the new football season.
As the football preps for the upcoming season, another team has been working to get the field ready for the home opener.
One of the country's premier builders of sports facilities, Ballard Sports of Solvay is supervising the removal of the Big East logo and the installation of the ACC logo.
The process isn’t as simple as you would think.
The ACC logo moves to the opposite corners of the field from the Big East logo had been, meaning four areas of turf have to be cut up.
"We've had meetings with the ACC people, conference calls. The branding of the ACC, they formally submit a style guide to all the schools and we have to follow that style guide at each arena set-up,” said Pete Sala, Manager of the Carrier Dome.
Sala says consistency in their branding is very important to the ACC, which is part of the reason the work is being done with such attention to detail.
The letters are carefully positioned, set in and raked so that they will all be seamless.
Though you may not see the crew working on the field, Sala says fans will be able to tell the quality of work put into the logos.
"Look at how that white pops. The ACC logo is going to pop like there's no tomorrow. You're going to see that the minute you come in, the first thing you're going to see is that bright white,” Sala said.
The basketball court was entirely refinished a few weeks ago and includes the letters ACC right below the foul line on each end.
