Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals and pitcher Felipe Paulino agreed to a one-year contract Thursday, avoiding arbitration.

Paulino, 29, went 3-1 with a 1.67 earned run average over seven starts last season before Tommy John surgery in early July ended the right-hander's campaign.

Over five major league seasons, Paulino sports a 13-32 record with a 4.93 ERA in 93 games, including 61 starts, with Houston, Colorado and the Royals.
