Recap: San Diego vs. Chicago Cubs
Peoria, AZ (Sports Network) - Matt Clark's two-run double capped a three-run eighth inning Thursday, lifting the San Diego Padres to a 12-11 win over the Chicago Cubs in spring training.
The Padres entered the eighth down 11-9 and got the first run after Jonathan Galvez led off with a single, went to second base on a bad pickoff attempt by Alberto Cabrera, advanced to third on Cabrera's wild pitch and scored on Brad Davis' ground out.
Brad Brach stranded a runner at second base in the ninth to pick up the save for San Diego.
Earlier, Clayton Richard was torched for nine runs -- eight earned -- on 12 hits in 4 1/3 innings for the Padres and Chicago's Chris Volstad allowed six run on nine hits in 4 2/3 frames.
Jason Bartlett and Jesus Guzman hit two-run homers for San Diego while Jeff Baker and Reed Johnson had solo shots for the Cubs.
