Baldwinsville (WSYR-TV) -- C.W. Baker High School’s Tyler Rouse has been named Gatorade’s 2012-13 New York Football Player of the Year.
The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, as well as high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
Rouse is now a finalist for the Gatorade’s National Football Player of the Year award, which will be announced in December.
At 5-foot-8 tall, Rouse, a senior running back, rushed for 2,977 yards and 45 touchdowns on 333 carries this past season, leading the Bees (8-2) to the Class AA Section 3 final.
Rouse has maintained a B-plus average in school and volunteers locally locally on behalf of a youth football league and an assisted living facility.
Past state award winners include Mark Sanchez, Wes Walker, Terrell Suggs, Anquan Boldin and Jerome Bettis.
