Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- If you toss something out onto the ice during a hockey game, you might get tossed out, but not if you’re headed to the Crunch game this Saturday.

Those attending the game are actually encouraged to hurl something soft and cuddly onto the ice and Crunch players are leading the way.

We’re used to seeing the guys knock the stuffing out of any player in the way of a goal, but on Tuesday we got to see their softer side.

Players teamed up with children from the Salvation Army Afterschool Program and headed to Build-a-Bear Workshop at Destiny USA, where they carefully selected a bear and stuffed it with kindness and love.

The bears will eventually end up in the hands of a child this holiday season.

“It’s that time of year. Too bad it couldn’t be all year round. It’s that time of year when you always want to give more than you receive,” said Crunch Forward Eric Neilson.

The team is asking those who attend Saturday’s game to bring a gently used stuffed animal to toss onto the ice, after the team scores its first goal. The game is at the War Memorial. If you can’t make it to the game, but want to make a donation, you can always drop off a stuffed animal at the Crunch Office.

Used bears will be steam cleaned and made to look like new.
