Lomong visits Tully High School to raise money for foundation
Tully (WSYR-TV) - An Olympic athlete was at Tully High School to raise money for a good cause.
Lopez Lomong challenged family and friends to a race tonight.
He is an alum of Tully, but is originally from South Sudan.
The money raised on Friday night benefited the boy's running club and the 4 South Sudan Foundation.
Lomong was fresh off the World Track and Field Championships in Moscow and says it's good to be back home.
"The most important thing is to really be able to come home and really enjoy the time with the great athletes. These [students] are the future of our country. My journey started right here and it's always great to be able to come back here and support the community, the community that has been out there with me every single time," Lomong said.
The event featured a 1 mile ‘Fun Run’ and a 5K ‘Fun Run.’
Awards were given to the top male and female runners in all three age brackets.
