Opening of the fly fishing area on the Salmon River postponed

Altmar (WSYR-TV) -- Fly fishermen will have to wait a little longer to fish on the Salmon River in Altmar.

The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) says the opening of the fly fishing area has been postponed from Saturday, September 15, to October 31.

Officials want to make sure enough salmon are in the river’s hatchery to lay eggs and support surrounding bodies of water.
