Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Paul Harris has been drafted in the first round of the NBA's developmental league draft by the expansion Maine Red Claws. Harris says his lifelong dream has been to play basketball in the NBA, but he was cut late in training camp by the Utah Jazz.

He left Syracuse a year early to pursue that dream, and even though he got cut, his dream is still very much alive.

The Red Claws selected Harris 8th overall. He's their first draft pick in franchise history. They are affiliated with Boston and Charlotte and their coach is Austin Ainge, son of Celtics general manager Danny Ainge.

As a junior last season at Syracuse, Harris averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds per game.

He's been slowed of late by an ankle injury.
