LIVERPOOL, NY (WSYR-TV) - “Ride for the Rescue,” the Rescue Mission’s biggest fundraising event, was held Saturday morning in Liverpool.
This year the goal is to raise $175,000 to help fund the Rescue Mission’s hunger, clothing and shelter programs for those in need.
The Rescue Mission’s Chief Operating Officer, Alan Thornton, says the need has never been greater, especially for families.
"Normally we would average about 650 meals a day and that in and of itself is an amazingly high number. But the last month we’ve seen that number go upwards of 800, even over 900 meals served in one day,” said Thornton.
As of Saturday morning, $140,000 was already raised thanks to “Ride for the Rescue.”
