Brewerton (WSYR-TV) – Central New York race fans had the opportunity to see one of NASCAR's biggest stars up close and personal Wednesday night at Brewerton Speedway. Defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart visited the speedway’s dirt track to compete in the Circuit of Champions Race.
Thousands of fans were on hand to watch Stewart in his first ever race at Brewerton Speedway.
Stewart, also known as “smoke,” started 7th in Wednesday night’s race and was able to move up a few spots over the course of the race – finishing fourth.
The race didn’t actually get underway until about 10:30 p.m., but fans say the wait was well worth it.
Stewart actually brought his own Sprint car to the race and although he's an accomplished NASCAR driver, Stewart is also at home on dirt tracks.
Stewart, who has won three Sprint Cup races this season, is fresh off of his second career World of Outlaws victory in Pennsylvania.
