Eugene, Ore. (WSYR-TV) – Tully High School graduate Lopez Lomong has inched a little closer to qualifying for the London Olympics.

Lomong won his qualifying heat in the 5000-meter event at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Ore., on Monday.

He will compete in the 5000-meter final on Thursday.

The top three finishers will earn a spot on the roster for the London Olympics.

Lomong was one of the Lost Boys of Sudan and came the the United States as a teenager.

He was the flag bearer for the U.S. at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic games.
