West Genesee lacrosse coach about to make history

Camilllus (WSYR-TV) -- The West Genesee lacrosse team is celebrating their record- tying game Tuesday, marking coach Mike Messere’s 747th win, which ties him for the most wins in the history of high school lacrosse.

Many consider Central New York the unofficial capital of lacrosse. And if weren’t for Mike Messere that may not be the case. He’s widely considered the best high school lacrosse coach ever and now he’s got the win total to prove it.

Messere tied Joe Cuozzo for the most victories in history as West Genesee took care of Auburn 14-4 on the road at Holland Stadium. He’s expected to break the record on Thursday when the Wildcats play host to Oswego.
