The Fulton Area Council of Christian Churches is hosting its 26th CROP Walk on October 14th for Church World Service. Church World Service is a relief, development, and refugee assistance ministry of 36 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican denominations and has partnerships in more than 80 countries. Its mission puts faith into action by serving those in immediate need and by addressing the root causes of their suffering, poverty and injustice.

This year the Fulton Walk will begin with registration at 1 pm at the Fulton Municipal Building on South Second Street and offer two choices for their walk. The Golden Mile and 5 K walks will both start off together and will be entirely on the East side of the city to avoid bridge construction and congestion.

The CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk provides a way for the greater Fulton community to become personally involved in responding to needs locally, and throughout the nation and world. “Ending Hunger One Step at a Time” is our message as they walk to raise monies for those who walk each day, many more miles than we walk, for clean water and food for their families.

Monies raised will be split with Church World Service and with local food programs. Twenty five percent of the monies raised will be shared among SNAP and four area food pantries: Believer’s Chapel, Oswego County Catholic Charities, Dexterville Community Services and the Salvation Army.

Anyone interested in walking or helping sponsor a walker is encouraged to contact their local church recruiter or Lois Mirabito, chair of the Fulton CROP Walk Committee, at (315) 593-2731.
