Sunday Evening, 9/7/2008
A weak weather system is slowly moving through Central New York this evening and on its way through it’s kicking off a few showers. These showers are encountering a very dry air mass in place so some of this rain isn’t even making it to the ground. We’ll keep the chance of a shower in the forecast this evening and tonight, but most areas should stay fairly dry.
The expectation will be in areas north of Syracuse and east of Lake Ontario. The air behind this disturbance is just cold enough for a few lake effect rain showers to develop. A band of showers may try and develop in the overnight hours across Oswego County. These showers will likely continue into early Monday morning, but most areas around Central New York will be dry with just a mix of sun and clouds.
The air will steadily be warming through the morning and this will act to stabilize the atmosphere and cut off any showers from Lake Ontario. It will be a very nice afternoon and also another comfortable day with low humidity and temps in the mid 70s.
The next big weather maker will arrive here in Central New York on Tuesday; this will be a cold front which will likely bring with it a round of showers and thunderstorms during the middle part of the day. Some of these storms on Tuesday could be on the strong side.
Behind this system, the air will be even colder. While there will likely be a lot of sunshine on Wednesday, temperatures will struggle to get out of the 60s. Overnight lows during the middle part of the week will drop into the low to mid 40s!
