Windy and warmer weather Thursday
It will be a very nice spring evening across central New York but it is Spring and if there is one thing that is guaranteed around here is that things will change and that is the case for us over the next few days.
Our first change comes Thursday. A front that came through central New York Tuesday evening as a cold front will be working back north as a warm front during the morning. The set up isn’t the greatest to get any precipitation but we are going to keep at least a low chance of a shower or a thunderstorm in the forecast until the front clears the region. Some of our computer models are still saying we will only get into the upper 60s to near 70 for a high Thursday but we are still banking on the southerly breeze and some sunshine to boost temperatures into the 70s.
That southerly breeze continues into Friday so our weather will remain very warm. By Friday afternoon, however, a cold front comes into the picture. It will be moving in from the west and will approach western New York early in the afternoon. The warmth along with an increase in moisture ahead of the front should lead to a rather solid line of showers and thunderstorms that will sweep through central New York during the 3 – 9 pm time frame. The warmth and moisture over us Friday is not as high as we might see later in the spring and summer which lessens the chance for stronger thunderstorms. However, any storm that forms will have a lot of wind in the lower atmosphere to work with so we still have to be on the look out for some gusty storms.
Once the cold front sweeps through Friday evening our warmth will be done for now and a new much cooler air mass will build back in for the weekend. Temperatures will only be in the 40s on Saturday but it will likely feel cooler than that as you factor in the gusty west-southwest wind.
