A ridge of high pressure will build back over us for the middle of the week and our temperature should rise again, with 50+ degree weather in the forecast today. This same area of high pressure should keep us mostly dry into Thursday, though the odd shower or sprinkles cannot be ruled out Thursday. High temperatures should also exceed 50 degrees Thursday and Friday, in fact, upper 50s look likely for Thursday.
Southeast winds ahead of this approaching storm will help transport an increasing amount of moisture so our chance for rain goes up Friday. However, there are some indications that showers, as opposed to a steadier rain, may hold off until Saturday evening and Sunday. This is due to brisk southeast winds that are forecast Friday and Saturday. This wind direction is something that can promote drying of the air as it descends down the Catskill Mountains. Should this occur, and then the extent of steady rain would be limited with showers (on and off rain) more likely Friday and Saturday, and would certainly be good news for the St. Patrick’s Parade Saturday. We’ll monitor this potential as we approach the weekend. No matter how you slice it, there will come a point where steadier, and perhaps even heavier rain, will fall. Combine that rain with snowmelt and area stream and rivers will be filling up this weekend. We’ll have to keep an eye on this the next few days. In spite of the rain our temperatures should stay mild right through the weekend.
