Monday Night February 8, 2010
Lake effect flurries continue to weaken tonight, with most areas just picking up a coating to perhaps an inch of snow. After a few morning flurries Tuesday, we’ll break out to a mix of sun and clouds.
After that our focus will turn to another storm system moving across the middle of the country that will try to re-develop along the East Coast for the middle of the week. In fact, Winter Storm Watches have been posted for the Southern Tier of New York. This storm system will end up a bit farther north along the coast than the one that just buried the Mid Atlantic states with 1 to 2 feet of snow so we will be watching it very closely.
Exactly how the storm develops (strengthens, tracks, etc.) once it gets to the Atlantic Ocean will ultimately dictate how it affects CNY. New data coming in Monday afternoon seems to indicate more of a southern track of this low, with the heaviest snow setting its sights on Pennsylvania. Obviously, there’s still quite a bit of time for us to hone in the forecast.
At the very least, it looks like central New York will have to deal with some widespread snow (not lake effect) on Wednesday. Temperatures will also remain well below normal right into the weekend.
